What is a Moai?
A Moai (pronounced "moh-eye") is a traditional social support network from Okinawa, Japan, meaning "meeting for a common purpose". This program honors that tradition by strengthening social ties and building a resilient community while meeting around the topic of parenting.
What do participants gain?
Participants learn to manage the unique stressors of cross-cultural life by mastering self-management techniques, such as grounding and values-based parenting, before moving into collaborative connection skills. The curriculum emphasizes that self-regulation is a prerequisite for helping children navigate complex identity shifts and transitions safely. Ultimately, this resource aims to transform the parenting experience into a stable foundation that protects a child's emotional wellbeing across borders.
